Helping to Make a Difference for the Haitian People
Dear Hound Listeners,
I believe we've all been impacted in some way by the devastation in Haiti. We've all seen the pictures on TV and watched with horror and dismay the suffering and the devastation. It brings a tear to one's eye to see the pain and the suffering of the people of Haiti. The dead, the homeless, the hungry and the injured is unimaginable. There are loved ones lost, children without a family, inadequate food, water, and no medical supplies to take care of the injured. Those who survived are surrounded by the bodies of their loved ones. The estimates go as high as 200,000 people who may have lost their lives by this horrific tradgedy. Haiti is the poorest Country in the Western Hemisphere and has been plagued by political conflict for most of it's history. Since 2004 the country has suffered profound violence and lawlessness and now this unfathomable tradgedy.
It is very encouraging to see that people and Nations worldwide have not lost the human touch to care about people we do not even know. Although money is certainly important, I realized we could do more as humanitarians. WDDH radio is joining forces with the Stepping Stones Foundation, to put on a drive to help the People of Haiti. I picked up the phone and called the Hound Crew and we all swung into action. We are calling out to everyone in our listening area, to bring to the Hound studio's on Boot Jack Hill, items to be sent to the people of Haiti. We are asking for items such as tooth paste, clothing, medical supplies, asprin, shoes, personal items, and any other items in which you think would benefit the needy. We are also putting out a challenge to the businesses of the area to match the $1,000 donation of The Hound, and our goal is to raise $25,000 for this needy cause. This money will be turned over to the Stepping Stone Foundation and whoever donates will be recognized.
It is in this spirit that we all must do our part in making sure when someone is in need, we're there to help. Please call the station at 814-772-9700 if you have any questions and Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Dennis D. Heindl
